Travel the Apache trail from Phoenix through varied beautiful terrains both on and off road, with spectacular views from above and below the scenic vistas of the 3 lakes that culminate in the Roosevelt dam.

Stop off on both sides to marvel at this man made achievement and the views.

Both offer views, but given time, I'd go back the way I came. Fish Creek hill will now scare the passengers pants off.

An amazing damsite with outstanding views. Until a few years back when the dam was expanded and coated with a concrete coating, Roosevelt Dam was the largest masonry dam in the world. It looked like the Egyptian pyramid construction - large, hand-hewn blocks stacked and melded together. It's still quite the sight.

This dam is slightly hidden and off the beaten path, but it is one of my favorite tourist attractions on the beginning of one of my favorite day trip destinations (the Apache Trail). This dam is quite large for what you would expect to see in Arizona. It is beautiful and has so much history. The bridge crossing Roosevelt Lake is extremely photogenic, and such a thrill. Seeing such a large water system in the middle of the desert is breathtaking. This is well worth the drive and the Apache Trail is also scenic from start to finish.

It's a good looking dam and there is a nice observation area with public restrooms. But that's about it. I mean, what are you looking g for here? It's a quick stop, not a destination.

Then decide how to go back.. via Tonto national monument then Globe and Superior to come home on the US 60 again or take a left and go up north a way before heading south to join the 202 after the red mountain.

It's a great location the sightseeing is beautiful and it has a dam. Better if you drive a 4x4 .
